Introducing: Ol' Skoo'

Everyone knows "that dude." You know, the 35- to 40-year-old guy who's always talkin' 'bout how good it was in the "old days." Ol' Skoo', On The Daily's latest character, was inspired by one such person we came across on the bus not too long ago.
There he was, rockin' out to some jams, when he struck up a conversation with some high schoolers on how today's rap music stacks up against that of his heyday. We're sure you've heard all those arguments before, but as one of the homies over at Jugrnaut put it once, "You know, we might complain that the new school is whack and they don't respect the old, but it's really our fault because we never took the time to show them the way, because we were too full of ourselves to see that they're the future of the movement."

What do you think?

We hope you enjoy Ol' Skoo' and his throwback throw-downs about music, movies, fashion and errthang else.

Ironmans

Earlier this year, there were rumors about a pair of Ironman Dunks reported to be released around the time of the "Ironman 2" movie. While Diversitile.com had us geeked over what could be, the rumors were never confirmed nor dispelled.
We had this strip idea back then, but due to our short hiatus, we never released it. Until now. Enjoy.

We at On The Daily also want to take the time to thank everyone who has become a fan on Facebook (and beyond!) and supported us in anyway. These strips are made from love of the culture and, contrary to any beliefs, we are not getting paid. It's not easy, but we try our hardest to deliver the funny with every strip and we truly appreciate all your feedback. Thanks.

Peace!

Postman's Oath

Sup y'all! It's been a while we know, but we've been working hard on a few things that will hopefully turn into great things for us, O.T.D. and in the end, YOU!

As a salute to those of you who take collecting seriously, we thought it would be fun to do something with the Postman's Oath:

"NEITHER SNOW, NOR RAIN, NOR HEAT, NOR GLOOM OF
NIGHT STAYS THESE COURIERS FROM THE SWIFT
COMPLETION OF THEIR APPOINTED ROUNDS."

Here's our take.

Peace!

Silvers

Someone told us of a recent outing they had. The new All White, Silver Anniversary Retro Jordan 3's just came out, he copped and proceeded to rock them that night. Needless to say, they garnished plenty of views and a couple hits from the birds at the bar.
Love 'em or not, all whites get mad looks.
peace.

DA Inner Sound Y'all

Twenty years ago the rap group known as De La Soul released their debut album entitled "3 feet High and Rising" and turned the Hip-Hop world on its ear.
In 2006 they teamed up with Nike to create their own SB Dunk. It was an instant classic and sneakerheads everywhere gobbled it up!
We're showing our love for the trailblazing styles De La Soul has given us and their unique sneak' we sport on our feet.

Peace!

Just Another Day

Howdy everyone!
This weeks episode is taking a closer look at the sneaker world from another point of view. Every pair of kicks has their own personality, take care of them and they will do their best to keep your feet happy.
Here we find some of the OTD guys and a mutual friend meeting up to get a bite to eat. What happens when their new kicks meet up for the first time?

I'm sure we all know someone who's ventured into the realm of the 'other side'. We're not judging, 'to each their own' we always say.

* * * *
As a bonus, we'll be giving one free print of any OTD comic strip to the first 3 people to name all four shoes in the strip!

Send your answers to info@onthedailychi.com along with your name and mailing address. We'll post the winners to this blog and the Facebook fanpage when we get them. Good luck!

We'll be doing more of these in the future along with other goodies for you to peep.

Where Are You Yeezy?

For this weeks installment we decided to use a story idea submission from a fellow sneakerhead. We had to take liberties with it due to length so we hope he likes it! Enjoy.

If you have a story you'd like us to consider for possible creation, send it to:
info@onthedailychi.com
We'll look it over and get back to you if we decide to use it.
Your story doesn't have to be about sneakers. It can be about any item you had to hunt, search, camp out or save up for, we know how it is.

Thanks,
-OTD Team.

Get Off the Phone

What up people?
Check out the new page.

This actually happened to someone we know. Well, not exactly.
Although both the salesperson and the customer were on their phones during the whole transaction, the customer tells us that he checked inside the box before he left the shoe store.
We thought it would be funnier to take some artistic license and add a different ending.
This ever happen to anyone else?

Maxwell Street

Sup people?

A couple of weeks ago I was driving near Roosevelt and 94 and decided to stop by Maxwell Street Market's new location, Roosevelt Road and Desplaines Street.

If you've never been to it, it's basically an outdoor flea market, complete with a few food vendors and all the bootleg merch you can handle. The market itself has a rich history steeped in blues music and, more recently, Polish hot dogs by way of Jim's Original.

Over the years the market has been moved around the UIC/"University Village" area a few times (the Market was originally located at the intersection of Maxwell Street and Halsted Avenue). Luckily, the spirit lives on.

I have to admit, I was sad the day the city decided to "rejuvenate" that area and move the vendors a few streets away. If you ever visited back in its heyday you would know what I mean.
Here's a photo of the market in the '50s.
I went there with my parents back in the early '80s so imagine that photo with people wearing tight jeans, L.A. Gears and tons of hairspray.

And here's the new strip...

Feel free to share any stories you may have of Maxwell Street Market, past or present. Peace.
